The addition of groups to the self-insurance section of the Texas Labor Code was intended to provide an affordable option for small and mid-sized employers that want to make workers’ compensation available to their employees. With group self-insurance, employees enjoy the same protection as they would with workers’ compensation written through an insurance company or certified self-insured.
